Hey, hey, its Thanksgiving, y'all! I thought of this idea way too late, but I have a lot of characters I want to draw, so if you’d like to see these continue past Thanksgiving, hit me with a reblog. Thanks, and eat turkey!
More Smash Bros. fakery from me. The game has a costume for “Crafted Yoshi” which is a great inclusion, but “Yarn Yoshi” would’ve been much more interesting, so I put this together in Photoshop.
I foolishly thought (for some reason) that this would be a simple, straightforward costume to create, but it turned out to be a pretty agonizing, tedious, and long process. I started by collaging photographs of the official Woolly World promo images (the ones used to advertise the game, not the amiibo toys) into the correct pose for Smash, which took under an hour to do. Unfortunately the photos were too blurry to match the super sharp, super-detailed renders of Smash Ultimate, so I began tracing EVERY. SINGLE. THREAD. Each part of the character (the nose, the bottom of the shoe, the arm, etc) became its own long evening of arduous painting; thread after thread. The whole thing took about a week to produce, so please check out the full 5000x5000 pixel HD glory of this fake render:
Two things to debunk the “Mario hits Yoshi on the head to make him extend his tongue in Super Mario World” theory:
1. As you can see in the slowed-down animation, Yoshi contorts his face before Mario’s hand overlaps his head, showing it is not an impact that triggers his action.
2. The official art suggests Mario is simply pointing forward to show Yoshi what to lick, and the graphics lack the detail to show that.
