when you go on amazon or other shopping sites, there’s an option to filter your results. you can choose to only view items that are under a certain category and in a certain price range.
everyone has “filters” that they use when determining whether or not they’re attracted to someone, either physically or emotionally. someone’s filters could look like this: [gender: female] > [age: 15-17] > [height: any] > [habits: doesn’t smoke or drink] > [interested in: literature, film]
but if this person were pansexual, it would look like this: [gender: any] > [age: 15-17] > [height: any] > [habits: doesn’t smoke or drink] > [interested in: literature, film]. it’s the same exact thing, just without the gender filter.
it’s a really common misconception that since pan folk don’t care about gender, we literally don’t have any preferences. but that’s not at all true — we’re just indifferent to gender. also that second example is my own so hmu
