It comes as no surprise when we hear that another on-duty NYPD
officer has raped a woman. The epidemics of police brutality and mass
incarceration that disproportionately violate black, brown, indigenous,
trans, and gender non-conforming bodies need to be stomped out.
On September 15th, an 18 year-old woman was handcuffed here at
Calvert Vaux Park in Coney Island and placed in an unmarked van by
detectives Edward Martins and Richard Hall. They proceeded to rape her
in a nearby parking lot and then shoved her out of the van by the 60th
precinct. They are now on “modified duty,” still getting paid for being
professional rapists while this woman deals with the pain and trauma of
her assault. She is brave in seeking justice.
We know police officers have the power to arrest people with minimal
cause and throw them into jails where they are raped by correctional
officers. We know that cops target and rape sex workers on the streets.
We know that police departments “lose” rape kits and claim their
assaults are consensual. We know that cops do “cavity searches” both
publicly and privately on their chosen victims. We know that cops rape
underage women. We know they commit racially motivated acts of rape and
murder under the guise of law and order. We know they are well protected
by their superiors, their unions, their lawyers, and the media outlets
that blame victims while the vulnerable are silenced and beaten to
submission.
Cops don’t stop rapists because cops are rapists. It is up to us to defend our communities.
When I was 16, I had a fake I.D. and decided to go to a gay bar by myself because some friends bailed on me. While there, an older gentleman bought me a drink. He wasn’t a creeper, and he definitely wasn’t unattractive. I accepted the drink and began talking to him. No big deal. As the hour progressed, I felt myself feeling strange. I mentioned that I felt like I had a headache, and this guy helped guide me out of the bar. As we were walking down the street, the thought of, ‘Oh god, he’s drugged me, I’m going to die’ came to my head. I tried to get away, but I was so drugged up that I could barely walk, let alone speak. It also didn’t help that I had really large ‘goth’ platform shoes because I was going through a phase. Anyway, this guy brought me to his suv and began undressing me. As a final act of defiance, I hit him over the head with my platform shoe. He then punched me, and I remember thinking, ‘Why don’t they ever give workshops to gay guys about being victims of rape too?’ While I was as careful as possible, I never saw the guy slip something in the drink. I even watched the bar tender make the drink. Anyway, I lied there completely paralyzed while this pervert was lubing up. I locked eyes with his for a moment, and that’s when it happened. A very large and angry drag queen opened the door of the vehicle and beat the shit out of my attempted rapist. She and her other drag friends helped dress and care for me while the police arrived. I was saved by a group of guardian drag queens. They were basically the modern day ‘angels from heaven.’
I’m reminded of the time Paul Ryan once casually implied that rape was little more than another form of conception…and how, under the guise of “family values, Republicans pushed laws that gave convicted rapists visitation rights…
Republicans are evil. Period. You’re on the wrong side of literally everything if you support them, even conditionally.
Republicans need to be voted out and opposed at every possible step.
Meanwhile it has officially been ruled it an “accident”. He was raped with a baton so violently he needed emergency surgery. There have to be consequences for the officers. This is not right.
to anyone that doesnt have french news : the president went to visit him at the hospital. protests are everywhere here in paris and outside the city to bring justice and lock up this sick, racist, rapist piece of shit.
Anonymous: i got recommended some post about a trans woman on the cover of National Geographic being a r*pist and at first i got anxious and then i found,,, there were literally no reports,, anywhere on google apart from "gender critical" (terf) sites and i was at peace
Do you really think TERFs would do that? Just go on the internet and lie about trans women?
The person on the cover of NatGeo is a NINE YEAR OLD GIRL. That’s right, folks, TERFs are now apparently accusing ELEMENTARY-SCHOOL CHILDREN of being rapists. What a world.
I absolutely believe TERFs would do that, based on the copious amounts of research I’ve done for several papers I’ve written… Suggestion: don’t read anything by Sheila Jeffreys. You’ll get SO MAD.
This is in reference to Cherno Biko, not a nine year old.
you really think liberal feminists would do that? just ignore a trans woman raping a trans man because they don’t like the source?
TERFs will do anything they can in order to fuel their hatred for trans women, and they are using this case to promote their hateful rhetoric. They do not actually care about the trans male victim.
If a TERF can “prove” trans women are actually just violent men in dresses who want to violate women’s bodies with their evil penises, then TERFs will “prove” it. They must absolutely love this incident, since the trans man is “female bodied” and the trans woman is “male bodied”, so it works into their rhetoric of male-bodied people raping female-bodied people.
Moving on to the kinds of feminists who reject TERFs: it’s pretty common practice that we will not acknowledge any source written by a TERF. Just like one should reject anything and everything written by a NAZI. Their opinions and ideas do not matter and do not deserve to be heard in any way. So if a TERF is writing about a trans woman being a rapist, yes I am going to ignore that, 100%. I do not listen to TERFs. Period.
(the exception being when I’m writing papers to denounce the TERF position, in which case I quote them to show how fucking batshit hateful they are.)
Moving even FURTHER on…
This situation is tragic for the victim, @eTheHustla. Rape is serious, and technically when both parties are intoxicated (as it seems was the case) neither of them could consent to sex. It’s clear that @eTheHustla (the victim, whose name I do not know besides a twitter handle) was extremely traumatized by the experience and rightfully labelled it rape, due to the fact that he had only consented if a condom was used. A condom was present initially but at some point Biko removed her condom. She continued the interaction without wearing her condom, which is why it became rape.
Biko admits to her wrongs in the article. She calls what she did abuse, she admits she was an abuser in her article, and she labels herself an abuser in the title of the article itself.
@eTheHustla does not feel he received the support that Biko alleges was given - people often have different perceptions about how much they are or are not helping. I can’t really comment or take sides on that particular aspect. Biko thinks she helped, @eTheHustla feels she didn’t help enough.
NEXT:
Yes, this is a case of a trans woman raping a trans man. However, I refuse to let it be used by TERFs as fuel for their transphobic and transmisogynistic campaign against trans people. TERFs are using @eTheHustla, they don’t actually care about him - if anything, TERFs would love to get their hands on him and “detransition” him.
Don’t believe me? Read some Sheila Jeffreys. Jeffreys describes people who regret their transitions as “survivors” of “surgical harms” (58). She, and others like her, think that the medical industry has built itself up to profit off “transgendering men, women and children for their profits” (58). Yes, Jeffreys made up a verb: “transgendering”. She also calls trans people “transgenders”, and believes that they are all actually just severely mentally ill and their “transgenderism” is just another a symptom of their mental illness, and not the root cause of distress that could be alleviated/treated with transitioning (62).
Anyway, I could go on but I won’t since I’ve already written several papers on the subject so much so that I have the MLA citation for her nasty-ass book fucking memorized.
Long story short: TERFs do not care about trans male victims of rape by trans women, TERFs just want to use these victims to promote their vile, poisonous transmisogynistic rhetoric.
Works Cited: Jeffreys, Sheila. Gender Hurts. Routledge, 2014.
Anonymous: Cherno Biko is literally a rapist. They admitted it. Wrote a whole piece about it. And the victim tweeted about it. Cherno Biko took off their condom mid intercourse because they wanted to impregnate a trans man and "have a non-binary trans baby". It was incredibly disturbing.
Yes, I know. Yes, it is disturbing. I read Biko’s article admitting to the rape and was quite upset. I have noted in every single one of my responses after her article was posted that I am aware Biko raped her partner.
I am not and have never denied that Biko raped someone.
The
original post did not mention Biko. It asked the question “Do you
really think TERFs would do that? Just go on the internet and lie about
trans women?” This question was asked before any further context was provided:
My answer to that question was “absolutely yes”, because TERFs come online and lie about trans women every single day without a doubt.
The
people who initially replied thought that the National Geographic cover
in question was the cover that contained a single portrait of a 9 year
old trans girl, Avery Jackson:
I
hope you can understand why myself and the other initial respondents
were furious. Sadly, experience has taught all of us that TERFs would
absolutely 100% call this innocent child a rapist.
Now, after
all of that, it came out that the cover in question was NOT the one
pictured above, but one containing a trans woman named Cherno Biko. A
link to her article was provided as well as a link to the twitter
account of the trans man she raped, whom I only know by his twitter
handle, @eTheHustla.
I read Biko’s article and @eTheHustla’s
twitter posts, and replied to the original post. I discussed the fact
that yes, this is indeed a case where a trans woman has raped a trans
man, but I again affirmed the fact that TERF opinions on this matter are
100% irrelevant. You can read my detailed response here.
TERFs
do not care about trans men except as potential targets to
“detransition” and “save”. TERFs are using this incident and using
@eTheHustla to promote their hateful, transmisogynistic, transphobic
message. I refuse to read anything they have to say about the matter,
and will continue to refuse.
