can you imagine reading the entire comic and coming away from it like, here is my cool rose lalonde meta! she had a good caring mom who was never neglectful and was just being a drama queen. the end

i really do love all lalondes and looking at homestuck’s most clear-cut discussion on addiction unsympathetically is really shallow regardless, but the effects growing up with someone who was a good person but a bad mom had on rose are consistently downplayed every time they’re brought up?

like, when she’s talking about how she always understood her mom was also a sister figure before she knew about ectobiology but that her maternal responsibilities were “displaced” rose blames herself for being too immature, she thinks it’s her fault for being a kid and wanting a mother figure at all, and that’s only reaffirmed! from there on out her relationship with her mom is used as a foil to dave’s abusive childhood. i think that could have been really well done if she was portrayed with…literally any sympathy when that came up? in dave and dirk’s convo she’s basically called ungrateful for having pent-up frustration towards her guardian when his was much worse, and again there’s nothing at all to refute that! i don’t think dave’s a bad person for having those feelings at all, or that mom didn’t care about her, or that bro absolutely was worse, but it still sort of stings that her internalized guilt / sense of responsibility for her emotionally neglectful upbringing is upheld as correct.

even when roxy came directly into play rose’s first instinct is to ask john to tell roxy she’s “sorry for being a shitty daughter,” because she still thinks that entire dynamic was her fault! and then when she and roxy meet they hug and hang out and it’s really sweet but that baggage is still never really worked out or acknowledged. that’s one of many loose threads in hs, ofc, but the way that it’s suggesting that rose’s resolution was just to be kind and open towards this new Second Chance with someone like her mom sort of makes it worse than the other instances where issues went untouched imo! i love rose and roxy and i want them to be close and sweet but the lack of baggage affirms that rose’s anger was dare i say Invalid, that it was her responsibility alone to Atone for having complicated feelings about her mom, and that it was correct for her to conclude that she was being overdramatic and constructing something out of a problem that didn’t exist. so that’s fun and cute

yall reduce rose and kanaya to background Lesbian Power Couple but like theyre so much deeper than that. and are hysterical lol. even jus their first date rose was dressed fancy to the max while also being, totally trashed and like kanaya didnt even know it was a date and was. in her pajamas. rose fell down the stairs when they kissed. like that happened. its so fucking funny how could fandom get them so wrong

also like not to get #deep or anything. but it always weirds me out when i see yall characterizing them as Perfect and completely lacking complexity. like no doubt their issues weren’t discussed in-depth the way say, dirkjake was and that is much of the reason why andrew hussie is #1 on my kill list but still. do them justice? we saw them struggle w roses alcoholism, we saw them have a moment where they almost broke up, we saw roses dying words reveal that she never even told her girlfriend of two years that she loved her. yet we know that kanaya still spent night and day with rose according to karkat, and we know that rose literally like. would kill for kanaya. she died for her trying to do that

like just from that you can see that they had their problems w overcoming those infamous rose lalonde self-imposed barriers, and how kanaya as usual overextended herself for the girl she loved. they ended up happy and ideal, yeah, cuz they are deeply in luv and good for each other..not cuz they had no type of conflict lol

Honestly my favorite part of Homestuck is that for a solid chunk of the story amongst all of the then-disguised characters harassing the then-main characters one in specifically deals with the main-est character backwards, so he starts out knowing everything about him and hating and insulting him and as we follow the main character his harasser gets less and less mad until it turns out that during their first conversation from the harasser’s side the main character is so used to him he acts friendly and the harasser asks him out, finds out he’s straight, and promptly starts talking to him backwards in time for the sole purpose of being too embarrassed to talk to him with that knowledgeable and honestly same

homestuck, like any good comedy, ended with a wedding

You see this? You see this shit right here?

On initial glance it looks like the black hole that the dead Calliope made right? That’s what I thought at least. But if that’s the case, then why is most of the panel white? I mean black holes suck in light, so why is it so damn bright in this panel?

But more importantly, why is it in the new universe? Because you have to remember here, they aren’t on a new planet, or even a new galaxy, they’re in an entirely new universe completely separated from their old one.

You see this? You see this shit right here?

This is a white hole. It’s completely theoretical, but it’s supposedly the other end of a black hole. Rather than sucking in everything near it, it spits everything out. Into Another Fucking Universe.

They aren’t being sucked in. They’re being spit out.

Anonymous: How do you feel about Jake having a wife in Hiveswap?

it’s Grandpa, not Jake, they’re 2 completely different people who grew up in different environments and had different lives as clearly shown in the canon story

hiveswap is a /prequel/ not a /sequel/

I think the point op is trying to make is that even tho they are the same person from different realities, they still grew up differently so there not really anything to feel about Jake having a wife, if you only care about the Jake that is not Grandpa.

they decided to call Grandpa, Jake, in Hiveswap, I mean I guess it makes sense to give them the same names but I wish they used at least Jacob or a whole diff name because this confusing

still Hiveswap IS A PREQUEL, check the wiki, it takes place in 1994, 15 whole years before the start of HS there is no way that can be Jake lol

tfw you try to have kids with a woman that doesn’t exist in your universe and when you’re not even born yet

nice try

also Grandpa had a completely different life and and grew up around diff people on top of being just another person in general, so it’s possible he ended up marrying a  woman, different people from differnt universes, I don’t see how there is even a point to this discussion

+ edit: the young “Roxy” shown in the pics is teen mom, it was said in one of the HS books‘s side notes she lived in the mansion for a while

Wiki mod here to make a personal addition to this post, there is plenty of evidence in Homestuck itself without referring to Hiveswap or extra-canonical sources such as Hussie’s commentary that characters have the same first names both sides of the scratch.

Saying there is “evidence” is kind of obtuse considering that Nanna outright states that her name is in fact Jane.

Additionally confusion over such matters is why we currently have an active proposal over at the wiki about renaming the guardian articles.
