“scratch a transphobe and a misogynist bleeds”

siobhan o'leary gives us a brilliant deconstruction of transphobia, and transmisogyny specifically

i dont wanna sound like im on the far left but if your solution to “transitionning is ridiculously expensive” is “lets stigmatize being trans to shit so the healthcare people pay for hrt” and not “lets stop the exploitation of marginalized groups for profit” i dont fuck w you

like, i know i already got insulted for saying that all transmedicalists are centrists but i really dont get how you can be pro a stateless classless moneyless society without being pro trans liberation, anti medicalization of trans lives, etc or at least recognizing basic patterns of transphobia found in the mainstream (”trans is suffering/hating yourself”) and in other reactonnaries groups (”trans people are faking it for not experiencing their gender the way i do/looking the way i think they should”). its not that hard to see that putting the medical field as our only way to know who is “faking it” is giving some people more power than they should have.

in the end this way of framing trans liberation as something that can be achieved via the current systems in place is completely oblivous to the economic level of trans oppression, and oppressions in general. yes poor trans people have huge difficulties accessing transition and that kills us but trans people are being deliberately kept in poverty not for their dysphoria, but for their inherent inabilty to conform to sociatal gender norms. if you dont see how being trans cannot only be about dysphoria, youre just as blind as the terf who doesnt see how being a woman cannot only be about having a vagina.

This isnt a hot take but feminism which centers around periods/vaginas/boobs as Things Which Unite All Women is an untrustworthy brand of feminism

slogans like “no pussy no power” “viva la vulva” “not an ovary-action” etc as stand-ins for “i support women” are more damaging than yall think bc centering ur feminism around things which only cis women experience a) alienates trans women who dont experience them, b) is harmful to ppl who DO experience them but arent women, & c) furthers the mentality that gender = genitals/trans women dont really have a place fighting for womens rights. none of that is as progressive as yall think holding up a sign with a vagina on it is, same goes 4 writing that shit on pads. not every woman has a vagina & not everyone with a vagina is a woman, and feminism which marginalizes entire subsets of us for the sake of a catchy slogan isnt good feminism

Not to mention that there are cis women that don’t have breasts (cancer patients), can’t menstruate (like all old women lmao and SO MANY OTHER KINDS OF WOMEN)

This kind of biological essentialism is what allows men to go on to say that “real” women have XYZ traits, and those XYZ traits are always what these kinds of feminists are touting as being the marks of womanhood, not realizing that they’re excluding transwomen, forcibly including transmen, and inadvertently excluding every single cis woman that doesn’t perfectly line up with their definition of women/womanhood.

I’ve noticed also that these kinds of feminists, taken over by biological essentialism and defining women by their functions, end up turning into TERFs.

While the transphobia is obviously the most important negative effect of this, as a cis woman with no dysphoria I can personally attest that even if you ARE a cis woman with breasts/menstruation/a uterus/a vulva, a model of feminism focused around those things can still be really alienating because:

Reproduction is an assigned function coded in cisheteropatriarchal systems of gender, which is why womanhood based on the ability to reproduce is only ever affirmative of the ruling cultural standards and not radical.

It is not the purpose of people to reproduce, it is the purpose of gender to turn people into tools of reproduction. Having a penis does not make you oppressive, patriarchal culture teaches men to express authority over women to help enforce societal order.

It’s not in our bodies, it’s in our society. You can unlearn or reject the toxic concepts mapped out before you and embrace a different mode of expression.

This is why TERFs are wrong 2KForever.

Me: perhaps you should examine why ur so repulsed by trans bodies instead of pretending like there’s no way it’s a symptom of u being raised in a transphobic society

A Cis™ *already in tears*: i can;;;t believe u want to force mea to have sex with all tthe transes :-( thinkin u are gross is just who i am :-( :-( why cannn;t u JUST accept that i seeu u as less desirable based solely on my invasssive assumptions aboout ur geniatals :- ( :-(

Me: Please examine why you generalize all trans people as looking one way to justify your repulsion towards us. Many of us are actually physically indistinguishable from our cis counterparts. Those who aren’t still at least deserve basic respect and not to have invasive assumptions made about their private body parts.

The Stupidass Transphobes On This Post: i just don;t like penis/vagina……………. :-/ : -/ why do u want to force me to l ike u transgendereds??? it;;;s mean to ask me to thhhink cccritically about HOW i view marginalized ppeople and encourage me to treat them as indio viduals!!!!! i just LIKE to assumme tha t trans peoople don;;;t meet my physical prrreferences because it justifies my transphobia
