Even if you’re not straight you can still have straight privilege provided you do not experience same gender attraction. Straight privilege isn’t defined by being straight but a lack of oppression by not being considered gay. You don’t have to date / be attracted to people of the opposite gender to experience straight privilege.
Straight privilege = An absence of being SGA

I’m honestly confused. If you had said they benefit from straight passing privilege i woulda been on board, but straight privilege? Naw. You can only have straight privilege if you are actually straight, i.e heterosexual and heteromantic. So like: an aroace, a bi/pan/poly/ace etc person in a het relationship, a cis passing trans person in a relationship with someone who passes as the opposite gender as them, any queer person who happens to be single or in the closet
Throughout middle and high school I showed absolutely no interest in dating or even liking anyone of any gender at my schools and I was still bullied for being queer because obviously if I didn’t like anyone that made me a freaky lesbian. Try again.

Because I’m aroace, my mother is constantly trying to force me to date men. She will talk about men she’s met, try to force me to date literally anyone she thinks is mildly attractive, and inviting strangers to our house in hopes I’ll be attracted in some way. The last one turned out to have a criminal record.
Look, I’m not saying that these experiences are worse than anyone elses. I’m not trying to talk over anyone. I’ve just seen so many people say that no one experiences oppression for being ace. I’m not sure i’d label all this as oppression, per say, but it is traumatic and is due to me being aroace.
I’ve never wanted to date and my parents were fine with that. It was only after I told them I was aroace did I get this treatment. It’s because I’m aroace. My mom has told me that she literally wishes I wasn’t aroace. Using the words “aromantic” and “asexual” specifically. I can hear her pray sometimes and she asks god to fix me. But yeah sure it’s JUST misogyny. :/

If you think that straight ace/aro people can’t be “tru straights”, then you also think that gay ace/aro people aren’t really gay. This is not up for debate. If you think aceness/aroness overrides a person’s orientation, that applies to all orientations.
i mean, generally what people are saying isn’t ‘heteroromantic asexual people can’t be, orientation-wise, straight’, what they’re saying is ‘straight people as a privileged social class don’t accept asexual people as One Of Them and thus asexual people don’t belong to that social class’. which doesn’t in any way imply gay/bi/etc ace people aren’t valid in their orientation. like, at all.
