Not only did Verhoeven make Elle 2016 which is about a woman getting raped and then getting into a relationship with her rapist he also made Black Book 2006 where a Jewish resistance fighter falls in love with the fucking Gestapo officer… is this the man you will stan?

enough cannot be said about how fucking vile Black Book is. 

it’s about a Jewish woman in the Netherlands who witnesses her family get slaughtered by nazis and joins the Dutch resistance in response. she goes undercover to get a job working at a local nazi headquarters with the intent of seducing a nazi commander, only to fall in love with him.

the movie goes to great lengths to cast him in a positive light, saying “see! he’s actually not so bad!” but putting him alongside another nazi who is overtly sadistic and out of control (and happens to have helped kill and rob the main character’s family). it is clear that the movie wants you to like him when he literally finds out she’s Jewish and doesn’t care. yes, a nazi commander ranked Hauptsturmführer doesn’t care that the main character’s Jewish because he’s just such a nice guy and loves her so much! 

when his commanding officer orders 40 Jewish prisoners killed, he even cancels the order! and starts negotiating with the resistance! then he’s executed after the Germans are defeated because no one waits to hear his side of the story and the lead character is falsely accused of being a nazi sympathizer and the big bad anti-nazis torture her!

(oh, yeah, and then she learns that a Dutch guy who pretended to work for the resistance was actually a villain, as he was betraying Jewish people and handing them over to the nazis to be killed, and he hides himself in a coffin full of gold stolen from Jewish people. don’t worry: she chases down the hearse he’s escaping in and stops him and yes i’m serious this is what happens).

the movie is fucking despicable and its attempts to not only romanticize a nazi but pair a Jewish woman with him is fucking appalling. fuck Verhoeven and fuck all the critics who praised this shit show.
