I haven’t complained about bad Davekat tropes in A Bit so I just wanna reverberate the idea that Rose and Kanaya being the perfect couple that are there to “guide” Dave and Karkat into accepting themselves is so fucking funny because Rosemary practically invented stupid, stubborn dancing around feelings and bad communication.
These girls were honest to god *instantly* in love with each other and it took them TWO YEARS to finally have a first kiss, on a date one of them didn’t even know was a date (well she knew but it’s Kanaya so you know she was second guessing herself, that’s why she chose short sleeves no undershirt, to be casual about it). And then you have Rose, wearing a prom dress and blitzed out of her mind, still trying to be coy with Dave about the whole thing.
It must have been killing literally everyone those two years to watch these girls stumble around like fucking tools while vehemently refusing to be open about the obvious. Like Dave and Karkat pretty much isolated themselves completely so I doubt anybody saw their dumb shit unless they actively wanted to have a laugh but Rose and Kanaya? They were out there, in every public space there was on the meteor, flirting in the most obvious, painful way highschool freshmen do and the minute anybody decided to give them a hard time about it they’d turn on them so quick. So everyone just had to sit back and watch the trainwreck, silently, or else the lesbians would make them look stupid. The only person who ever did it successfully being Terezi because she would laugh too loud and too long to really get a good comeback in.
Just please go read Rose and Kanaya pesterlogs and then think about standing in a room with that, for two years, and getting your eyes clawed out for even suggesting they are a couple. Disasters, complete and total disaster, I love it.
Not sure how out in the open Rose and Kanaya were compared to Dave and Karkat, but
not only we have Dave canonically being the one dragging her about her shit and helping her instead of the contrary,
we also have several moments of Rose and Kanaya being extremely awkward and Dave shortly dragging Kanaya too. AND Kanaya asking for help. This is a sight to behold.
Dave and Karkat maybe sorted everything out on their own in a complete and awkward mess, but Rose and Kanaya here weren’t doing better one bit and needed some kind of outside force in both iterations in order to even sort out the fact that they were going to have a date at all.
