When looking at the re-capitalization of communist countries you can’t end your understanding at “socialist states end up capitalist”. Countries with communist revolutions were often poor and in the middle of constant war, and when the PRC and USSR collapsed a lot of financial help and defense was lost. The US directly interfered with elections in Russia, and Yeltsin paved the way for Putin. Pre-revolution Russia was a late feudal state with poor industrial output and money being put towards imperialism rather than resources.

So, some things to ask yourself: 1) what were conditions like pre revolution, 2) who interfered, and 3) what changed in leadership lead to re-capitalization?

In a world dominated by wealthy imperialist capitalist countries, so much of re-capitalization came as a result of economic imperialism and war.

Anarchist revolutions were much more short lived and easily attacked, still often for similar reasons regarding poverty and lack of defense. However, that’s where criticism is necessary. It’s great if you achieve revolution, but if your achievements last such a short time before collapsing, you need to acknowledge which methods may be failing.

I guess what I’m saying is, drink some nuance juice. Criticize not only what you disagree with. Expand on what you know about the past and present.

these are good points, but at the same time i still think it’s reasonable to say that a more democratic, more horizontally organized USSR or PRC might have avoided the pitfalls that they fell into, and sustained socialism or even successfully achieved the transition to communism.

conversely, however, the lack of structure which has become part and parcel of anarchism is plainly not conductive to a successful revolution.

more important than getting bogged down in ML vs ancom discourse, is looking at revolutions and attempted across the board of leftist tendencies, and taking influence from the parts which worked, and discarding the parts which don’t. a lot of the most successful revolutionary groups today, from Rojava to the EZLN, do exactly that.

Oh yeah definetly
