Anonymous: IMO, dysphoria (defined as distress due to body/gender mismatch) isn't an absolute requirement for being trans, but it's by far the most reliable indicator. Sometimes people disconnect so much they don't notice any discomfort, others simply have milder forms of dysphoria.

Often the question is asked “how can someone know they’re trans if they don’t have dysphoria?” without appreciating that you don’t beed to realise you’re trans to be trans. It’s not that the question doesn’t have an answer, but that it’s irrelevant to ask.
