I’m not saying that primmies are secretly reactionaries and are hiding it or that they’re fascists (they’re not). I’m sure they consider themselves perfectly beyond and above the concepts or progress and reaction and deny that framing. I don’t think secretly they’re rightists who just pretend they think they’re beyond that divide. They pretty clearly are convinced they’ve surpassed it.
What I am saying is that people who spend most their time ranting about the impossibility of leftist projects and of socialism and communism are usually the sorts we label as anti communists and consider our enemies. What I am saying is kropotkittens new found paganism and heathanism is adopting language that makes it fairly hard to distinguish from varg vikernes style reaction. What I am saying is myself and many other poc on this site have noted this and I find it unsurprising that it’s mostly white anarchists shrugging our suspicion off or dismissing it as outright dangerous. Weird how that goes down.
Like I barely trust leftist heathens who talk about church burning and Norse paganism, and I’m supposed to think a pagan who talks about that and spends their time shitting on leftism is somehow like a totally trustworthy person?
From my own experience, I think it is pretty easy to differentiate between people who adopt a language of neo-paganism or heathenism and folks like Varg Vikernes. And I’d say that it is important that we be able to make that distinction.
It’s strikes me as akin to saying “racists co-opted the public image of skinhead, so anti-racist skinheads should not be trusted.”
I’m neither a neo-pagan, nor a heathen but I have known many (and there are many more) antiracist pagans and heathens who do fight and out their bodies in the line to protect those spaces from racists.
As far as shitting on Leftist movements and activism – half of the Leftists on Tumblr spend a good part of their day shitting on every movement and strategy but their own. Having an Eeyore who shits on everything –though maybe annoying– is easily fixed by just ignoring their negativity.
What I’ve seen in the last few days is “Left unity” in shitting on a PERSON. Movements will survive criticism (unfortunately in some cases) but not all people will walk unscathed out from the bottom of the dogpile – which is why it should be saved for use against actually dangerous individuals.
Not liking someone’s attitude, being put off by their aesthetic or being sketched out by their interests –if those things are not actually harmful– is not a valid justification for dogpiling them and sending them anon hate.
Now, people can say “I didn’t send the anon hate” but we have all been complicit at some level in putting a target on Kropotkitten’s back. This is especially dangerous when it is done by blogs with a large following.
Disliking someone for whatever reason is fine. But sustained harassment is not. The best thing to do if Kropotkitten’s new schtick rubs you the wrong way is to ignore them – it looks like they are moving out of Left Tumblr and into Heathen or neo-pagan spaces anyway.
That’s not shrugging off your suspicions – that’s me saying that for something based solely ON SUSPICION this has gone to far and may have already caused needless harm to a human being.
i feel like saying that ppl are “put off by their aesthetic” or “sketched out by their interests” is like a rly, idk, soft way of putting the problems ppl have w kropotkitten. like its not like they jsut started posting neo-pagan “we should burn churches” shit and thats where ppls problems w them come from, its the latest in a long line of anti-communist shit, noble savage tropes, and support for like aragorn and atassa and shit
like i dont think the heathenism stuff is the stuff thats actually the biggest similarity between kropotkittens stuff and varg vikernes shit, its just sorta the worrying cherry on top
