When are y'all gonna realize that we have no direct way to affect legislation from passing once we have an elected official in office?

Literally the only thing we can do is call senators and representatives en masse to say “hey maybe you shouldn’t cut funding for food stamps, social security, education, etc etc etc?” and hope that they listen.

And the only alternate choice for getting a law passed or rejected, which we shouldn’t have to do in the first place, is protest for months on end in order for some diet concession to be handed out on a silver platter.

Does a country that purposefully ignores the voice of the people truly deserve to call itself a democracy? And if not, then shouldn’t we do something to change the set up so it benefits and empowers the vast majority of people to participate in politics?

Fun fact: if you’re below the 75th income percentile in the US (i.e. if you make less than ~$80,000, which you probably do), your economic policy preferences do not influence the actions of your elected representatives. Like, at all.
