ok a lot of you don’t seem to get the issue with this so let me break it down.

under normal conditions? i’d fucking love it if an old work was rebooted feature more POC and LGBT people, who were not either in the original for the sake of representation

you must understand this however: not all representation is good representation. and this is a clear example of why.

making the POC, overweight, gay, and transgender kids the bullies picking on the white straight kids is shitty. in real life, the people who are supposed to be represented are usually the ones being bullied. does this mean minority groups can’t be bullies in real life? of course not.

but you cannot claim this is even half-baked, half-worthwhile representation when its being presented to a TV audience. you can’t paint a bunch of LGBT and non-white kids as the tormentor of white straight kids and claim its a positive thing. i’m fucking ignoring the fact Veronica looks like a bitchy blond cheerleader now, because even if she looked the same as before she’s still a straight white kid being tormented by LGBT and nonwhite kids which sends her into a downwards path into murder.

if JD and Veronica weren’t white and straight? then we could look past this. in this case, its just part of this minority cast that are villains upon this entire representative cast. we can deal with that.

but its not.

its fake representation that will do more harm than good in an effort to score brownie points with you. if you eat this shit up? thats what the want.

its token-baiting garbage. a story about two murderous white kids wanting to kill the people they hate most: the Heathers. those minorities some of ya’ll are trying to claim as good representation.

its garbage. the least you can do is acknowledge why so many people are upset instead of whining about “WHY WONT YOU GIVE IT A CHAAAAAAANCE”

i’d genuinely prefer Peathers still be about white straight nonsense if THIS is the kind of representation we’re getting.
