I’m still confused about when the science fiction community and the gaming community became two distinct entities with very little overlap. I always grew up with the assumption that “nerd culture” was generally the same shit, and it was the good shit that I was into. But they aren’t even in the same ballpark right now. Science fiction is over here writing about post gender futures and space communism while gamers are still arguing about whether or not women are people. It honestly feels alienating to me as somebody who always fucking loved both and assumed that the community was generally the same.
