If you are responsible for a place for trans people, be it a support group, a youth group, an advice blog etc, and you intend to make it inclusive of nonbinary and genderqueer people, please make it explicit that we are included.

Make it clear that agender people are welcome, that demiboys and demigirls are welcome regardless of their assigned gender, that people with uncommon identities are welcome. Make sure to include people who don’t want to transition or who don’t mind presenting as their assigned gender. Make it clear that genderfluid people belong, even on days their gender matches their assigned gender. Be welcoming of questioning people, and make it clear that they don’t need to be almost sure that they are trans, include them even if they might realise they are cis at one point and let them know that that’s okay.

You need to include all of us, not just those who are “almost binary trans”, not just those who are seen as “trans enough”. 

And you need to make your support of us explicit. Don’t reduce us to a footnote, don’t make a place for binary trans people and tack us on as an afterthought and think that’s enough. We need to know that we are welcome, that we are wanted there and not just tolerated. We are not less important than binary people.
