Since my country is in a real crisis right now (x, x), I wanted to take the time to celebrate the uniqueness of Venezuela and bring a little light and hope to the real character and awesomeness of our people by gathering a list of words we use every day that might seem odd to other people!

So let’s start:

  • Chevere - good, okay, nice, great (it’s used like a lot)
  • Chamo/a - bro, guy, boy, dude / girl
  • Conchale - jeez, come on
  • Pana - friend, buddy, friendly person
  • Muérgano - rude, evil person
  • Papaya/papayita - very easy (and yes, there’s the fruit too but we call it lechosa)
  • Burda - a lot, really
  • Coroto - utensil, object
  • Bululú - a gathering of many people
  • Cambúr - banana (another fruit we changed the name of haha)
  • Achantado - a slow person
  • Catire/a - a blond / blonde person
  • Tal cual - as it is
  • Chimbo - bad situation or cheap thing. Also can be used as “that sucks”
  • Enratonado - to be really hungover
  • Gafo - goofy, stupid
  • Na’guará - wow, an exclamation
  • Caramba - an expression of surprise same as na’guará
  • Chalequear - to make fun of a person

Hope you enjoyed this list! There are many more so feel free to add them if you please
