After YEARS of trying I’ve finally got a photo ID!

If anyone else *only* has a birth certificate and needs to get their social security card (the two most basic/common forms of ID you need to get a photo ID) here’s the solution:

Birth Certificate and a *letter from your doctor!*

The letter from your doctor has to contain:

  • Your Full Name,
  • Your Date of Birth,
  • on Doctors Letterhead
  • Letter recently dated
  • with a “Wet” Ink Signature (no stamp, print out).

Take the birth certificate and letter to Social Security Office, fill out a form: boom!

With those two things you can get a new copy of your social security card (you need to know the number, I think) - and best yet, the paper they give you back when they process your application is as valid as the social security card to take to the DMV with your birth certificate (and a check/money order, plus 2 pieces of mail to prove address) so that same day you go for the card? You can get the ID; no need to wait the 2 weeks for it to arrive.

I spent about 15 minutes at social security, and then an hour at DMV, and left with a photo ID and will have a new social security card soon too!

Finally. After so many bureaucratic hoops and dead ends I officially exist!
