Being an ally to sexual abuse, sexual assault, and rape survivors means supporting ALL survivors, not just the ones who are survivors of perpetrators you personally don’t know or don’t like.

For example: if you immediately and wholeheartedly believe sexual abuse accusations against a politician you hate but refuse to even consider the possibility that accusations against an actor you love are true then you are not a real ally to survivors, you’re just using them and what happened to them as further justification for why you dislike someone – and discarding them and their stories when they challenge your world view by accusing a person you do like.

Being a good actor doesn’t make someone not a pedophile, being a talented comedian doesn’t make someone not a sexual predator, being a politician with ideals that match your own doesn’t make someone not a rapist, and being a physically attractive whatever doesn’t make someone incapable of sexual assault.

A person being someone who you like or respect doesn’t make them not a sexual predator and you cannot claim to care about the survivors of these people if you refuse to condemn predators because of how you personally feel about them. If whether or not you believe a survivor is dependent on how you personally feel about who they’re accusing, then you don’t give a shit about survivors at all.
