AntiFA doesn’t stand for “Anti-Fascist”. It stands for “Anti-Fascist ACTION”.

The last bit is important. Anyone can be an Anti-Fascist but it’s not AntiFA until you’re actually doing something about it.

honestly, demanding that people march into the streets and risk their safety is kinda ableist and sounds like republican boot strap shit

if you’re antifascist you are good and you don’t have to risk your life just to ring in praise from superficial people

That’s not the only action you can take against fascism.

Action =/= Violence

My point was that Anti-Fascism is simply a stance. AntiFA is acting on that stance.

I tried making a really long reply but the app crashed so I’m making this shorter. If you don’t know how to participate in antifa or help the cost other than “punch nazis” (since that’s really only one tactic out of dozens we should be using) you can:

  • Donate to antifa groups, particularly their legal funds. Not all groups ask for donations though
  • Marching does not mean “punch nazis and smash windows” all the time (though sometimes sure), sometimes marching means just that. Protest. Play up respectability politics to your advantage.
  • Support organizations and groups for people targeted by white supremacy. If you’re a student, your college likely has a Jewish student org, an African American org, an LGBT group, ext. who will appreciate having an extra set of hands for certain events and activities.
  • Help organize community events against racism, with a strong focus on unity among different groups. Organize a community dinner or a “rock against racism” concert.
  • Focus on young teens, who tend to be targeted by neo-nazis more than adults. Young teens are more impressionable, however once you commit to a belief at say 16-18 it’s a lot harder to change your worldview, it becomes a part of your identity. If you have siblings, cousins, ext who are around this age that you fear might be falling into this crowd, make sure they know full well why nazis are bad, why their ideology is dangerous, why they are wrong. Make it clear that associating with fascists will have terrible consequences, especially if they look up to you.
  • If you have medical training you’re knowledge is much needed during protests, even peaceful ones. Tend to the wounded.
  • If you are a lawyer, volunteer to defend protesters who were arrested.
  • If you see a white supremacist harassing someone, don’t rush to punch the nazi, rush to support and defend their victim. Help them get home in one piece.

There are probably other ways to help but those are all I can think of.

Rock Against Racism is a really good example of non-violent antifascist action.

Rock Against Racism (RAR) was a campaign set up in the United Kingdom in 1976 as a response to an increase in racial conflict and the growth of white nationalist groups such as the National Front. The campaign involved pop, rock, punk and reggae musicians staging concerts with an anti-racist theme, in order to discourage young people from embracing racism. The campaign was founded, in part, as a response to statements and activities by well-known rock musicians that were widely regarded as racist.
