Re-Blog to support Native hunting rights and fight against individuals who don’t understand our Indigenous cultures.

???? no? “”“culture”“” isn’t an excuse for violence against a peaceful species for absolutely no logical reason

1. It’s not an endangered species.

2. It’s how they eat. They could starve otherwise but hey who cares about the people right as long as the animals are fine right??

Lol ok “”“”“”“culture”“?”“” Isn’t a reason to come barging into my country telling us how we ought to live but since you guys seem to think you know everything about how everyone ought to live all the time here we go

white people and other south of the wall (the Canadian border) clearly have no clue how shit works in Alaska. There are no grocery stores just “down the road”, we don’t have “food deserts” we have wilderness.

I don’t know how many times I’ve had to explain this to people in person over and over because they can’t grasp it.

If some communities in this state don’t hunt, they starve. I come from one of these communities, ok? I know what I’m talking about. 200 square miles of rivers, mountains, woods, bogs. No fucking Walmart. Not even a gas station. No pavement. No roads. Nada. Nothing. You, the wilderness, your family, your hunting rifles and shotguns and maybe a dog or two. I know this might be difficult for you to understand, because comparitvely every thing in the lower 48 is just so puny and littered with humans, but really. Really really really up here there’s so much fucking space you can close your eyes and randomly point at my state and there’s probably no one living where your finger lands.

“But they could just move into a town or suburban area and not have to live substistance!” Why? To be like you? No thank you, I’ve lived in cities and I hate it. I like being close to the earth, I like processing my own food, I like knowing where my meat comes from. I like living a hard lifestyle it keeps me healthy. I like knowing that if I don’t get up and hunt and actively take care of myself and my family I will die. It keeps me grounded to what matters. It takes skill and determination to live this lifestyle, and it’s how my ancestors lived. It’s fulfilling.

Furthermore, you’re being really ethnocentric. Why don’t you take a second and actually learn about someone else’s lifestyle before suggesting they need to change it. I had to, when I moved out of the village I had to learn to act like a white person and see things from a different cultural perspective to be successful and simply live. It’s because suburbanites, or white people, are the majority. Do you have any idea how many POC have to learn to act, talk and think you guys? And we never really bitch about it? It’s just what you do if you want to be successful? So yeah no I’m sorry you come to the AK wilderness you best learn to get along with the natives. When in Rome.

You know what I think is gross? Farming animals and making them unhappy to kill them and eat them. It makes me sick. I would a thousand times over rather a whale or a caribou or a moose being happy doing what they do until they’re food. Not to mention it tastes terrible. I remember the first time I ate store bought meat, it was beef and it made me sick for three days.

“You should all be vegetarian!” Alaskan natives have never been vegetarian. Stop trying to force your preconceived idea of a healthy lifestyle down our throats because you think animals are cute. Animals are cute, they’re also food. No grocery stores, remember? Idgaf what your opinion is on animal cruelty as far as hunting is concerned, but no subsistence hunter ever wants an animal to suffer. Hunters will always be closer to the land and animals they harvest than any PETA psycho with an agenda. Forget the fact that we’re complex emotional creatures, but understanding how animals and the land works is literally crucial to our survival. And frankly it’s pretty damn rich of any one of you to come barging into our territory again telling us how we ought to live.

I’m Athabascan and I get this shit constantly about moose, wolves, bears and caribou so you know what leave my coastal brothers and sisters alone. They’re feeding their families and honoring their traditions, what’re you going to do? Go forage for cucumber at the sacred Whole Foods market? Be my guest. It’s none of my business.

See? That wasn’t hard.

She deleted that post with a quickness lol
