I think my general opinion is that people who willingly cause others to die and suffer do not deserve forgiveness just because they eventually decided to stop.

Those lives are lost or ruined. You can’t undo that. You can apologize but you can’t fix it. You’ve caused permanent damage.

A change of actions is great, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t face backlash.
