it makes me so mad that we don’t have chairs for service workers in the us but some other places do? who’s responsible for that besides capitalist ‘productivity’ demands

  7. susedraws said: My last retail job destroyed me. Sundays I’d be standing and moving around for 7 hours without a break. And yes, I’m pretty sure that’s illegal but they justified it with “the store is only open for 5 hours”. Opening and closing doesn’t qualify for even a 15 minute break apparently. We’d also be severely understaffed on Sundays so it was pretty impossible to sneak a drink of water or go to the bathroom. I had to fight back tears because my knees would hurt so much
  8. lesbianstate said: at my last job the area behind the counter was specifically designed so that it was difficult to lean and it regularly reached 100°+ in the summer bc the building had no fan and no AC. i was allowed a chair when I had really bad cramps but i could only sit where i wouldnt be seen by customers (thus i couldn’t see them) so it was only safe to sit in like 10 sec intervals lest i keep a customer waiting
