Anonymous: how do you reconcile richard spencer getting maced and arrested by cops with the fact that cops are also the kkk?

down-with-capitalism:

I mean obviously it’s not like every cop is a secret white nationalist. The KKK is infiltrating police organizations but they haven’t taken over entirely. Their job is to contain the situation and that’s what they (tried) to do.

If you wanna talk more like theory I mean the police represent the violent maintenance of the neoliberal state, so fascists like Richard Spencer aren’t as much of a threat to cops as leftists, but riots like these directly threaten the order of neoliberalism. Whether they get started by the left or right isn’t of much importance to cops if both sides are there, questioning the ability of public officials to maintain order. Riots demonstrate that those in power cannot control the unrest of the people.

When cops mace fascists, it’s usually not a personal vendetta or something. Instead, it’s because the state has to be the strongest party in any brawl, so then they can justify it through “law and order” rhetoric. It’s closer to an “I agree with you guys, but you need to stay out of this” relationship.

Sorry my thoughts were all over the place but I just suck at explaining.
