let’s be real here: TERFs don’t get any shit IRL. they don’t get harassed for their caustic views. they don’t have to deal with any harassment based on the fact that they hate trans women and don’t believe that we are real women. this isn’t exactly a radical view at all; it’s reactionary, it’s the status quo. we already know that most people aren’t going to view us as real women unless we somehow manage to perform normative femininity to the point where we “pass” as cis women, and even then we are constantly having to prove ourselves. terfs aren’t radicals. they aren’t presenting some major, controversial dissenting opinions. they can be pretty open about their views because… who’s going to stop them? who’s going to speak up about it?

the answer is pretty much just “trans women” and we are already a small enough minority that, when it comes to IRL shit, this will basically never happen. we are pretty vocal on a few websites, such as tumblr, but that’s about it when it comes to our social capital. we have no way of violently suppressing terf views IRL like they can do to us. they can shut us out of female spaces, shut us out of lesbian spaces, completely emotionally blackball us when it comes to any interaction whatsoever. we don’t have that kind of power. trans women have no power in queer spaces IRL. it might feel like we kind of dominate the queer discourse when you log onto tumblr, but i absolutely guarantee you that that is absolutely not the case. not on the blue website, and not IRL.

so when terfs drag out the boogeyman of “TRANS WOMEN ARE TRYING TO FORCE THEIR WAY INTO FEMALE SPACES AND VIOLENTLY SILENCE GENDER CRITICAL WOMYN” i just have to ask… where? how? when did we get the ability to do that? you guys aren’t rebels, you aren’t radicals. you’re upholding the status quo, you’re holding the Normal, Average view. we literally are just trying to survive and terfs are doing their best to keep us away from queer community resources.

THAT is violence. THAT is silencing.
