Having worked as a facepainter for 2 summers, I saw so much of this in that short time. Parents not letting their boys have “girly” facepaint or glitter tattoos, as well as girls not allowed to have “boyish” ones.

There was One Time that stood out to me in a Good way, where this darling little 3yo boy in a pink football jersey got a pink and white design with lots of hearts and swirls and he was SO happy, and his parents didn’t bat an eye. I swear I almost cried at how happy it made me. And I remember this years later because so many other times it was “No, don’t you want a dragon or a shark instead? Don’t you mean red or green or blue instead of pink? You don’t want a girly one.” And this in a city that’s supposed to be super liberal.

I s2g it always took everything I had not to go off on those parents for enforcing sexism.and toxic masculinity. Especially with such young kids. Because there were far, far too many.
