We’ve got to start consciously fighting fascists on a metapolitical field and attempting to cultivate allies in subcultural movements.

There are many opportunities for this!

Subcultures like Anonymous, Juggalos, Pagan/Heathen communities, Occultists, Witches, Satanists, Skinheads, Punks, Metalheads, Bikers, and so on all have active movements within them who have been fighting the fascist creep for some time.

If you’re involved in these communities it’s so important to make these struggles known to people who are not. Very often people don’t want to come out about this stuff because they’re afraid it’ll brand their already widely misunderstood subculture as “full of fascists” and they just don’t want more negative attention.

But that also means us anarchists on the outside of these communities have to be offering solidarity and not condemnation.

I am not part of half of the communities that I’ve mentioned, but I am happy to stand with any of them that dedicate themselves to fighting fascism within and outside their ranks.

Furthermore, if you are part of these communities you can also try reaching out to the antifascist and anticapitalist members of other communities to establish solidarity and be able to show up for each other.

A lot of anarchists and libertarian socialists worry about how it might make us look “silly” or “immature” if we were to show up with punks, witches, juggalos, satanists, etc in all their regalia. Honestly, fuck that sentiment. Our tactics shouldn’t revolve around how respectable we appear to our enemies or neutral parties.

The point remains that these spaces have been infiltrated heavily by fascists who have made them into incubation chambers for their beliefs. Neofolk, black metal, and many other kinds of music have been defined by or founded by virulent fascists as a means to spread their ideology.

And where there have been responses by anarchists and others (like in punk) the infiltration has often been softened or even eradicated entirely.

But this can go even further in becoming an anticapitalist coalition on top of being an antifascist one. Many of the aforementioned subcultural communities are either heavily affected by or responses to capitalist alienation and exploitation, which is why they are so vulnerable to the false solutions of the fascist creep in the first place.

By providing an alternative we can hit two birds with one stone: the fash will be out of many of their recruiting venues and the capitalist class challenged with increasing ferocity from a new front.

This is why I believe we should make a movement toward encouraging subcultural involvement in anarchism, antifascism, and anticapitalism.

My comrades and I are producing a pamphlet on how to oppose fascism in metal, gonna be released soon. Stay in touch

Please do send that this way when you finish producing it.
