I think its more the personality type they find attractive… even then it’s a stretch when you consider how much an ass he is but they say confidence and power are sexy things and Rick is confidence and power in a volitile state. He doesnt rule over anything but his own mind and family (and a microverse battery) but HOLY SHIT he has complete mastery of those and so can do whatever he wants and break all the rules and you think, wow, if I could just get in with him I could travel anywhere and do anything and if he cared about me I’d always be safe in the end!

Whether thats technically true or not is irrelevent here as long as you can feel like its true. But why would a guy like Rick like someone like you? Well he’s an ass so surely you would be the only one in universe to see how lonely he is and fight passed his rough edges to find the sweet sentimental man inside!

And honestly if you’re already pretending Rick is capable of ever showing any real affection to anyone, why not also trick yourself into thinking a boney, drooling, old man with blue hair and bad breath wouldnt actually bother you if he was human and not a stylized cartoon character?
