This Nazi march in Charlottesville is a good time to remind people that “I wasn’t a fascist until some college kid called me a racist” isn’t a real thought that any human being has ever had. These people are not persecuted. They are not victims.

These people, many of them formerly self-described libertarians, are who they’ve always been: malevolent thugs whose concept of liberty extends only to their freedom to terrorize the people they hate. This alt-right thing is fascistic, it is morally bankrupt, it glories in bigotry and hate, and there is no excuse for any person of conscience to be anywhere near it.

This klan rally with torches outside a church is not a joke, it’s not a piece of social commentary. These goons are telling you who they are and there is no reason not to take them at their word. They were telling us who they were when they called themselves “libertarians” but excluded Muslims, immigrants, and LGBT people too.

No more excuses. No more “well maybe…”
