stop… the fucking “keith doesn’t understand jokes” jokes fuckin…. someone not understanding smth isn’t something to laugh at them for. god. god save me
like. how many times do i have to say it before people start listening? i’ve been saying it since a little while after i started participating in the voltron fandom. the first posts about it, i tried to be nice and respectful. i tried to calmly explain why it was bad, and i made it clear that i knew a lot of you weren’t aware what you were doing. but now? i’m tired. i’ll admit that the amount of those “keith doesn’t understand” jokes on my dash has gone down a lot, so thanks for that, but they shouldn’t be on my dash at all. like, mutuals are putting it on my dash. i love all my mutuals, but, these sorts of jokes? they’re not okay. i’ve talked about it every time i’ve seen it happen, and that is, a lot. there’s a chance some of you didn’t see me talking about it all those times, and i really don’t want to think you’re ignoring me, but this stuff hurts.
i’m autistic. keith is an autistic coded character. he probably wasn’t written that way intentionally, but he’s autistic. a lot of the characters are, but he’s the one people focus on as autistic the most.
when you make jokes where the punchline is “keith took this literally” and just “keith didn’t understand” in general, it feels like i’m being made fun of. it takes me back to elementary school, before my diagnosis, but while my autistic traits were way more prominent, where the allistic kids took advantage of me having a hard time understanding. even the older kids did it, and it sucked. i was the butt of so many jokes and i didn’t even realize. i thought the fact that they were laughing at me meant they liked me. it still happens, but now i’m less naive, and i know how to realize.
some of you don’t seem to understand, that this stuff happens to real people. i hate that you think it’s funny.
