It terrifies me that some people find a dog with certain “issues” (for example, small scars or “too skinny”) and assume that the dog should not go back to the owner so therefore they will not attempt to find the owner.

If anyone found NiteHawk, they would assume he is obviously abused. Broken leg (that can’t be fixed), missing teeth, scar on his nose, mature cataracts, IBD that would flare up if he’s given kibble, scarred lungs, esophageal narrowing, Lyme positive…. all from either before I got him 4 years ago or things that at this point are not fixable. His health would absolutely be in jeopardy if someone kept him not knowing all of his issues and how to manage them.

Please stop assuming the dog you found is abused or neglected. More often than not, you’re wrong. Not every “stray” needs a “hero.” They just need to be returned to their dog mom or dog dad.

also, with certain breeds, people see a healthy/fit dog as “too skinny” ex. Joe, aka even a boxer issue

Taylor has scars all over her legs just from playing with Chief, I’m almost positive it didn’t actually hurt her because if it did she’d stop playing, but she does have extremely sensitive skin.

Also many people assume a dog’s abused or neglected based on its behavior, since people fail to realize some dogs will naturally be more timid since there are different personalities.

When I first got mango I was walking her along the road, and a tourist car pulled over to yell at me. Didn’t give me a chance to explain, just yelled at me for abusing and neglecting her and told me they were going to tell the shelter. I found out later that they did, and once the shelter put together the information, figured this was the dog they’d adopted out a few months ago, they told them it sounded like I was doing a great job, she’d improved so much.

I often get people telling me henry must’ve been abused in his previous home, because he’s so scared. His previous home was his mother’s womb. Mind you, they say this while leaping at him and cornering him to pat him
