Late capitalism ranks up there with ‘means of production’ in arbitrary nonsense used by Marxists that really doesn’t actually mean anything but they will damn well insist that it does.
“Talking about the materials needed to produce stuff and the status of our economic system is nonsense and anyone who insists it matters is a marxist :/”
I think you’d be better off with the title your name is a reference to, as you haven’t a clue.
I mean, hell, lets actually go over this. So, means of production as ‘materials needed to produce stuff.’ Yet that can, and really does, mean literally everything. Is a hammer not counted if you never use it to produce anything? Or is it based on intent?
The means of production literally is an arbitrary category.
Late capitalism is much the same, it’s just a Marxist buzzword, grouping things that often have nothing to do with capitalism and aren’t even new, and positing somehow that there is this linear progression that is predictable and codified, to say nothing of the fact that it is just blind hope that somehow this is the ‘late stages’ of something.
But, you know, whatever, you do you.
I couldve sworn ive talked to you about this a loooong time ago before you started giving @taxloopholes all your attention. In any case I’ll say it again:
The means of production is defined as the materials, resources, and land that is used for the direct production for a commodity. Literally its “the means” to which something is made, that’s it. Yet for some reason ancaps love applying this definition to every object imaginable. Hell, i had one guy on here say benches and windows are classified as a m.o.p. because “benches prevents exhaustion in workers which assists in the later production of commodities” and “windows allow light into the workplace so the workers can see what theyre doing.” We explain this to your lot every single time yet you keep getting looser and looser with the definition while building your weak-ass strawman of the left. And youre acting like none of you use “cronyism” as a buzzword or get out of jail free card to avoid any and all critiques of capitalism. Shit, none of y'all even know what capitalism *is*, what it *does*, how it *evolves*, nor how it *affects* the world around it in order to argue for it properly.
This is what happens when you don’t do any research beyond LearnLiberty and mises.org
Their response boiled down to “things like windows and benches are considered means of production because (my) definition was too broad” im done for the night.
Like gee i didnt know the water my locksmith father drinks is a major component in directly making a key or fixing a lock. I wonder if he learned that at trade school.
How many degrees of separation until its not a means of production. If the locksmith uses a paperclip to pick the lock to open it, is the paperclip the means of production?
Its not my fault your term is fucking dumb and arbitrary.
….why would a locksmith, someone who’s been trained to work with specific lock-breaking tools, ever seriously use a paper clip when they have lockpicks and bump keys at their disposal lmao
Why do y'all keep pulling up these arbitrary examples that rarely, if ever, happen in real life, show em off like you found reality’s loophole, and strut around in victory like the cocks you are
He called this definition arbitrary:
“In economics and sociology, the means of production are physical, non-human inputs used for the production of economic value, such as facilities, machinery, tools, infrastructural capital and natural capital. The means of production includes two broad categories of objects: instruments of labor (tools, factories, infrastructure, etc.) and subjects of labor (natural resources and raw materials). If creating a good, people operate on the subjects of labor, using the instruments of labor, to create a product; or, stated another way, labour acting on the means of production creates a good.”
Mood
It is, because it could literally mean any object used as a tool, any building used to house tools and/or laborers, etc. It could literally apply even more to any object because anything could be considered the ‘raw materials’ for a product.
It literally means any object used in the production of another object, To avoid it being a post-hoc defintion, it would therefor have to mean any object that could POTENTIALLY be used to produce another object, which means basically everything.
I didnt know my air conditioner was a raw material used for baking my cookies! Thank you capitalism!
I’m pretty sure no one is going to try to seize my embroidery machine in the revolution when there are larger machines that produce much more output and that are socially operated. It’s a matter of practicality, but leave it to ancaps to launch off into hypothetical space.
