I wanna clear up a misconception. Fake antifa accounts (there are *many*) don’t exist to “troll leftists.” The left isn’t their audience at all. They’re aiming for the right to enrage them about fake shit that never happened. Other than the one idiot shooting himself, this string of events is exactly according to plan for them.

And it’s not just fake antifa. Fake “sjw” accounts, fake -kin and “transracial” accounts, etc. are all over tumblr and Twitter run by right-wingers with the specific goal of fooling other right-wingers into thinking they’re real and angering them, pushing them further to the right and/or to discredit existing political positions by making insane exaggerations of them. When one of these fake accounts uses the language popularized around causes of transgender inclusion, for example, but twists it to support nonsense like “transracialism” and otherkin, the goal is to get others to throw the baby out with the bathwater and reject trans people as part of the same reaction that rejected obvious nonsense like Rachel Dolezal.

They don’t target the left and don’t waste their time trying because it’s pretty hard for ignorant right-wingers to convincingly pretend to be left-wing. The point isn’t to fool the left. It’s to create a never-ending whirlwind of hard-right radicalization. If you know a teenage frog-Nazi dipshit, there is an astoundingly high chance he got there because he fell for some fake shit his dota friends made up without telling him. The left needs to get wise to this tactic and come up with new ways to combat it. Much like Nazis’ free-speech concern trolling, it exploits the gaps in liberal democratic culture to warp minds without ever having to engage them on the merits of their poison ideology.
