If any of my followers live near the Cape Fear river like I do. Please stop drinking your tap water. It has been found that Chemours a DuPont subsidiary has been releasing GenX into our drinking water. In 2009 the EPA gave this company the permit to manufacture this toxic chemical on the stipulation that they do not release it into the river which is the water supply source for much of this region. Cancer is the primary side effect of this chemical. There is an ongoing “investigation” on this situation. This region is mostly poor people and people of color. (big surprise) So again if you can afford bottled water (it was at the dollar store the other day) Please avoid drinking your tap water. Tbh this shit scares me and pisses me off.

Please Boost this. My family lives in this region and we get our water from the Cape Fear river basin.

Chemours, maker of GenX chemical, won’t commit to stop discharging into the Cape Fear River (June 15, 2017):

Chemours makes GenX, which is used on non-stick pans, at its Fayetteville plant… Conventional treatment processes don’t remove it from drinking water.

The EPA calls GenX an “emerging contaminant” because its safety thresholds have yet to be studied and established.

… New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Chairman Woody White said that Chemours doesn’t intend to stop discharging GenX into the river.

This is not okay. Spread the word for those who get their water from Cape Fear River.

For those who don’t know if they have friends or such in this area, it is in southern North Carolina along the coast. I don’t know how extensive it is, but please alert any and all friends who might be in danger.

It’s also effecting our well water as well and they are saying it could be the next Flint. Pollution of the Cape Fear River isn’t anything new since they have issues with hog farm lagoons over flowing and now we have to deal with this. The cape fear river covers 200 miles and is connected to coastal estuaries and has tributaries in 29 of our 100 counties. This is not a small problem and this part of the state is very poor and is predominately poor whites. As well as Indigenous, Black and Latinx  communities. 27% of the state get’s their water from the Cape Fear River. Let that sink in…….
