The best thing about that vid of the frog person getting choked out by the oath keeper, is that the original vid uploaded to youtube is just filled with a bunch of angry alt-right people who now totally hate the oath keepers since they’re kicking out impotent pepe kids.

i think the Oathkeeper in question was Latino too. Doesn’t absolve him of being part of a right wing militia and associating with such fucks, i think it was a pro-Confederate Monument protest they were at for context. But it does point out that there are fractures that can be exploited.

Redneck Revolt has particularly been adept that this. Recently there was a much ill-used photo of two people “hugging it out” at such a protest but the context of the photo was totally left out by the mass media:

One of my friends in Redneck Revolt (an anti-racist outreach group) told me that there was a lot more to the story of these two guys hugging at the end of our counter-protest in Lansing against a bunch of Islamaphobes afraid of “Sharia Law.”

Per my friend: The guy hugging was one of ours. His name is Tim with Redneck Revolt in Traverse city. A huge part of our mission is counter recruitment. This is the conversation in full that was had. I think it really drives home how big our victory actually was. Anyway, here’s the conversation that Tim had with that guy: “And I have to say I underestimated the power of counter-recruiting. A veteran approached me afterward, because I had told them there was a nazi in their ranks And that his brothers and sisters had died fighting them… he came across the police line, as they were falling back, straight at me. “I’d like to talk to you, sir. ” he walked right to me, fave to face. He said “my grandparents and my aunt and my uncle’s were all taken to Dachau. Two of them left. You really started me thinking today… I really need to rethink this.” And he then started tearing up and ask if it would be alright to give me a hug.“

Basically, bless Redneck Revolt for reaching out and rescuing misguided white anti-government types from holding anti-Islam, anti-immigrant conspiracies and associating with white supremacists. There were a lot of black Oathkeepers at the “free speech” rally in Boston and if we had something like Redneck Revolt we could have done something like this rather than label all of them as full-on dyed in the wool irredeemable nazis. By doing that we are in fact helping the nazis secure their misguided allies.

This is what I’ve been trying to say! The militia movement is not a monolith and they aren’t all fash. Many of them have very sincere but misguided anti-state and anti-capitalist sentiments that have been subverted.

There is room for us to pull them away from their formations and into something actually productive!
