aveisahellion: Hey, I've been trying to find nonbinary words for familial relationships ie daughter, son, brother etc any advice?

Hey!

Luckily, immediate family members are easy for neutral words. Mom/dad can just be parent(s), or any number of cute little names (bubby, maddy/moddy, baba, etc.).

Brothers/sisters are just siblings, or sibs. I don’t have any sibs myself, but I love the idea of calling them “sibs”.

Extended family members are where it starts to get a little funky. Niece/nephew becomes a cute “nibling”, which is something I am desperate to use for myself. Also, the equally cute “chibling”, or even “sibkid”. But aunt/uncle is a bit trickier, though they’ve been called “piblings”. There’s also auncle or untie.

Grandparents can be bubby/bubba, grandy, or poppy. Grandchildren can also be grandkids.

For me, I strongly suggest checking out this site!

Also, neutral terms for your family to use for you can be fairly simple. Parents can just call your their kid or child, instead of son or daughter. So, for example, “This is my child, Alex.” No need for gendered language.

As already stated above, brothers and sisters can just call you their sibling, and aunts/uncles their nibling/chibling, etc. etc.

Hope that helps!
