“Fighting fascists makes you a fascist” makes no sense. The defining feature of fascism is not violence.

If I fight a mugger I’m not a mugger. If I fight a bear it doesn’t make me a bear.

Fascism is about control and antifascism is about refusal of that control.

I’ve said this before, but AntiFA is not attacking “ideas” or just fighting anyone who “disagrees”. 

There are organizations of fascists with stated aims of ethnic cleansing who are rallying to try to get their way. That is who AntiFA is fighting.
