This is such an interesting dissection of a very common trope in writing female characters that I never really thought about before, but it’s so prevalent and so obvious and so fucking disgusting.

This was really good, I liked that they went through and found so many varied examples from so many periods in time to really drive home that this isn’t a one off and is a significant trope that exists in a ton of our culture. The only thing I wish he’d covered more is the fact that the characters subjected to this trope are mentally essentially children (more often than not), and expanding on that further. He touches on it for a moment but I really feel like more needs to be said about how many men find it acceptable to imagine and fantasize about relationships with significantly younger women- whereas the bulk of women don’t seem to have the same fantasy/acceptance of such a concept. Even the recent ‘Cougar’ trend was rather short lived and focused on young, often college age men, not innocent little boys. I feel like there’s a huge difference.
