The prevelence of “man-in-dress” comedy in children’s media demonstrates that cis parents don’t care if their kids know about trans people, so long as we are a contemptible joke.

And that’s why we need them in those dresses. Because those parents don’t care. They’ll assume it’s another joke and look away. And THAT’S when we make those men in dresses good characters, accepted by the show’s other characters, role models, normal. That’s when we can fight back without them realizing it’s even happened.

Or we could just make realistic, informed, and three dimensional transgender characters who are treated with respect so that hundreds of thousands of trans women don’t grow up hating themselves and thinking that they’re an ugly joke.

There’s no big gay master plan, it’s about challenging narratives and to do that people actually have to be aware that you’re doing so on some level.
