New York City: No Reprisals Against Migrant Workers on May Day!

Tuesday, April 18 - 12 Noon

26 Federal Plaza (Broadway side), Manhattan

Hosted by Workers World Party

WORKERS DEMAND: NO REPRISALS AGAINST MIGRANT WORKERS THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE MAY DAY STRIKE

Stop The War Against Migrants!

On Tuesday April 18 at 12PM, labor activists, workers, students and community activists will hold a press conference in front of the Federal Building at 26 Plaza (Broadway entrance) to demand that employers take no reprisals against migrant workers across the country – including here in the New York area – who participate in the May Day migrant workers strike on Monday, May 1. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) regional offices are located at 26 Federal Plaza.

The press conference, sponsored by Workers World Party, will call on the labor movement and all workers regardless of their race, nationality or immigration status to radically step up support and solidarity for undocumented and migrant workers.

Teresa Gutierrez, a long-time leader in the immigrant rights movement, and one of the organizers of the press conference said, “On May 1, immigrant workers will be striking all over the country to demand an end to mass arrests and deportations, and to Trump’s racist war on immigrants and all Black and Brown people.“

Gutierrez continued, “We are putting every boss on notice that if they fire, or in any way punish workers for leaving work to rally in Union Square on May Day, the workers’ movement will target them with picket lines and boycotts.”

Participants in the press conference will also talk about the formation of defense committees around the country to defend the primary targets of Trump and the growing police state, including immigrants, Muslims, people of color, the Black Lives Matter movement, Indigenous nations, women, people with disabilities, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.

We encourage workers who are threatened, fired or punished for participating or planning to participate in May day events to reach out to us at 347-674-0515 or nycdefense@protonmail.com for support.
