its absolutely french and meme is certainly a way to spell it but theres also mémère which they could have used to avoid memeing the hell out everyones grandparents lmao

also i always pronounced it meh-mey? not mee-mee 

another fun meme: the equivalent of mémé for a grandfather is pépé, as in pepe the frog. we cant escape the memeification of french.
