A fat birb

Since this is the most popular pic on my blog, I want to add a little PSA:

If you see a bird sitting like this, please try to catch it and bring it to a wildlife sanctuary or rehab (if there is any such thing - often they wont help pigeons either, but it’s worth to check just in case) because this bird is most likely sick or injured. It’s not normal for birds to sit like this, even though it looks super cute and funny.

Also, despite this blog’s name - most pigeons aren’t actually fat. The vast majority of city pigeons is actually malnourished. Pigeons are just built really bulky and hurt birds will often puff themselves up even more.

So yeah, please keep an eye out for our feathered friends. If you end up with a hurt pige and don’t know what to do, feel free to drop me a message.

this is such a good post, so often people will say things like “The first sign of illness in birds is death” and that is so untrue. Birds just don’t express pain and sickness like mammals do. Especially not tough opportunistic birds like pigeons, crows and even chickens. If you see a bird sitting super puffed up with it’s eyes shut and it doesn’t move when you approach it, it’s probably sick. Birds puff up to stay warm, so just like a sick person will try to stay warm, so will a sick bird.
