My Full Recommendation for “Alice Isn’t Dead”

toralyzer:

this is a new podcast by the night vale people, here’s what it has:

- lesbians
specifically: narrator is a lesbian, her wife is missing. so it’s not lesbians being cute together. but it is lesbians in a story about other things than their sexuality, lesbians treated as normal.

- horror kinda like night vale
specifically: the sense of a dangerous, poorly-understood world that includes stranger things than we know of. the setting is normal but supernatural things start popping up, increasingly as the story progresses.
(it doesn’t have the humor element like night vale, although the narrator sometimes makes pretty funny comments in her own style.)

- it’s an ongoing story
much more continuity and reason to be invested in a particular character, compared to night vale. the plot and backstory are both gradually revealed, both are super interesting.

- the format is very cool
it’s a series of radio dispatches made on a road trip. so she alternates between narrating what’s happened, commenting on the area she’s driving through, and just talking out into the air to alice. together it’s a unique sort of experience of following a few different woven threads.

- clever little insights and philosophy like night vale
that man fink is at it again…

- jasika nicole’s performance
so good!!!! (same voice as dana on night vale)

- the music
yeah!!!!

I like it a lot and since the Night Vale fandom was big I bet a lot of you will.
