Stop letting your children get away with hurting animals.
When you let it happen, you are neglecting your duties as a parent, as a decent person, and if the animal is yours, as an owner.

I’d clap back my child into the next century if they hurt an animal. I literally won’t hit them but the roasting of a life time will surface

Depending on your childs age, its your responsibility to make sure they don’t, not theirs.
Its your responsibility to make sure they know not to hurt animals.
Children only know as much as you teach them.

Your children will not be happy to learn that what they were doing was bad and abusive once they are old enough to understand.

I remember thinking about a childhood bird a few years after he had died and realizing that he was TERRIFIED of me because I treated him like a toy I could be rough with. I loved that bird, I didn’t know why he tried to bite me and run away from me every chance he got. I went to my mom and asked her why she didn’t take him away from me or make me stop. Her answer was basically, “Well you wanted to play with him so bad, I thought it was cute.”

Just think about the person your kid will be one day and how they’re going to think about what you let them do.

And for the love of god PLEASE be the one to educate your child before an owner has to do it, because if your child hits one of my animals, I’ll nicely explain to them how they should treat animals but they’re going to come back to you saying “that lady wants to know where the fuck my mommy is, and she would like to give you some words”

My parents were always really good about teaching me to be responsible around animals. Like always ask before petting someone’s dog, don’t talk to or pet service dogs, don’t make loud noises or goof around near horses, if you chase or grab at an animal and it bites/scratches you then it was probably your fault, don’t get a pet unless you have thought long and hard about it first, etc.

But I cannot tell you how many friends of mine just did not learn these things or realized when they were older that they had badly mistreated one of their pets. This doesn’t just cause animal
abuse it also puts the kid in danger when they don’t understand not to hug a dog that is growling at them or as an adult think it’s ok to startle a horse and gets kicked in the face. Teach your children basic animal sense.

I would like to print this post and tape it up at work.

If your kids are going to a pet store, give them the rules FIRST. Let them know BEFORE hand that they can’t touch the glass, they can’t yell, they can’t hit cages, they can’t pick things up. Otherwise they will just do what they want, why wouldn’t they??? They don’t fully understand, they need to be guided.
