This is an early screen test, back when the main character was Nick. This the scene where he finally gets his shock collar removed. In the first version of the movie, all predators had to wear shock collars that would shock them if they got angry. In that version is was the prey that were in charge of the city and were very cruel to the predators. 

This version of the film was cancelled 1 year into production, during which the animators were already animating the movie. The producers felt that the audience would hate the town because of how unfair it was, and felt that nobody would want Nick to save it. They also said that they don’t like making places where the characters are miserable.

Wow, that would have been… Dark.

But a good story though.. Zoo(dis)topia?

Goddamn, and I thought the collar around his neck in those concept illustrations was just one of those house arrest trackers…

Damn, son, I didn’t know that was the original story. The new one is way better, though, way less partisan and beat-you-over-the-head with its message.
