This post was going around earlier – according to @intheshadowofsignificance (whom I trust) these links are viruses and the whole thing may be a hoax.

Be safe, y’all!

If anyone’s antivirus has “website security” you can also google their database and type the url.

For example, Norton has a huge database of websites complete with user reviews and analysis specifically for safety. There are other sites out there as well but I can’t vouch for their legitimacy.

Anyway, they’ll tell you every single website on this list is suspicious, as well as try to reveal discrepancies in the listed location.

Several claim to be located in the U.S but are hidden / unable to be verified. One is actually proven to be located in the Netherlands (I believe that one is talkfictions but it’s been a bit since I looked into this)

OP’s heart was in the right place but please, P l e a s e don’t click the links!

google your username + “site:thebuystock.org” or whatever the website is.  this way you can see if your stories have been stolen without going to the actual site.

@lunamanar i know i just saw this from you… and seeing this kinda reinforces the whole “do not go clicking and checking” bit… just another fyi i guess? not sure if anything is legit but to be safe for peoples computers and such.

The ads contained in the sites often contain virus or hijack attempts, yes (probably should’ve noted that in the previous post, but), this is another reason I don’t think people should go checking them.

Question: What should I do if the website has taken my stuff? I just did a search for my username and sure enough, they’ve taken my fics.

I am pissed as fuck. What should I do?!

It’s entirely safe to follow the steps to report listed in the original post, which are as follows:

HOW TO REPORT

  1. Go here:https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreportform?hl=en
  2. Put in the name of the website (one report each)
  3. Write in additional details: This is a spamdexing mirror site tohttps://www.fanfiction.net/ and has stolen my profiles and intellectual property.
  4. Click “I am not a robot” and then “Report webspam”
  5. Report more by clicking the link on: Go back to the webspam report form.

Feel free to include your fanfiction.net profile link as further proof of original ownership / publication. To my knowledge, none of the mirror sites list concrete dates of when “you” joined, whereas ffnet does.

You can also report the problem directly to ffnet, but it’s unlikely anything can be done on their end.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, my stories were included here too and I just want to say that after safe proofing and braving (at my own risk) further investigation, I’ve found that the profile links on these websites go directly to my permanent ffnet link address.

So they link back to my original account, original publication, everything.

This doesn’t seem like a case of a human being consciously stealing intellectual property, but a type of phishing / advertising scam. This isn’t about taking the blood, sweat, and tears that are our artworks, it’s about stealing sensitive information for $$$

If you clicked the links at ANY point, change your passwords to everything.

Clear your browsing history.

Be careful everyone!
