Your psychology teacher is a fucking idiot. My chemical imbalance is no more my “choice” than is the imbalance that causes schizophrenia. Or the imbalance that causes diabetes. If he thinks there is anyone on the planet who would CHOOSE this, he needs to have his teaching license suspended until he gets his head out of his ass.
