Ok so because of this post  I decided to do some violin science

So as you can see I can play the first 3 fingers no problem, but then…

then there’s this 4th one.

(sorry about the bad quality) I have to reach there. And my finger is in a quite unnatural position:

(Hooray for quick paint edits!) It goes like that. And almost locks into that position, and by that I mean it either does that or doesn’t reach anywhere near enough. It feels rather unnatural to do this.


I have played violin long enough to make that happen without further thinking when I have to play 4th finger, but it makes my whole hand go in a weird position and gets painful after a while. 

Conclusion: I can play 4th finger on violin but mainly because my hands do things I don’t think they’re supposed to do.
