Okay so.. GamKar theory

I actually have a friend that absolutely hates Gamzee and everything he stands for. That’s fine, I respect peoples’ opinions. She says that he kills for religion and, though I’m not excusing his actions in the least, there’s a bit more to it than that.

Let’s start off when Gamzee was younger. We all know that his lusus neglected him severely. Now, what if this was continuous instead of just when Gamzee was six sweeps? What I’m saying is, what if a practically newborn grub Gamzee was neglected, left all alone? And all his life pretty much. I know Alternians are a… Strong (?) people and could maybe hunt or kill others for food I guess, however they do that, but I doubt a very young troll would be able to. So this leads me to my next idea. The sopor slime. I don’t know about you guys, but if there was nothing left to eat and it was die of starvation or some weird slime.. And if I was /desperate/ enough to stay alive, I would probably try it.

Now, say the neglecting went on for months at a time. That’s enough to get someone completely addicted to the sopor and, if the addiction started early enough, by sweep six, Gamzee’s mind would probably be a puddly mess. But, being a highblood and being an Alternian in general, when he finally did have a few friends, he didn’t cling to them like you would think.

But his being neglected probably WAS the cause of all of this trouble. Gamzee clung to his RELIGION instead of Karkat, Tavros, any of his other friends. That means that, probably, his religion was the most important thing, the thing holding him together. Also, Gamzee was sober for a long time. There was shown to be no more pie tins laying scattered around BEFORE he contacted Karkat and told him what he was going to do. So, sober Gamzee does NOT equal a killer.

Now, emotionally crushed and religiously confused Gamzee is. After Dave showed him that ICP video, pretty much making fun of his religion, once again, possibly the only thing having held him together for all his lonely life, (keep in mind, Gamzee would have been just 13 at the time of all of this) he allowed Lil Cal to whisper to him. In his conversation with Karkat, he even admitted that the puppet was whispering to him.

Well, if someone promised you the world when you had pretty much NOTHING else to lose, since your flush-crush Tavros rejected you, your so-called best friend mostly seemed like he wanted nothing to do with you, and your only belief crumbling around you, I’m pretty sure you would give it consideration. And, seeing how the sopor wasn’t muddling his mind that was, by then, not as nice as the old Gamzee because he was the third highest canon blood caste, it was pretty much logical to him to murder those that had never liked him and those that had turned him down, turned him away, those that had seemingly stabbed him in the back and left him to rot.

I’m not saying that this is the whole truth, however. I’m being biased toward Gamzee in the writings above because I want to portray him as he portrayed himself. And, before you say he went on a rampage, he didn’t. He had enough of his mind left over to warn Karkat. That isn’t a rampage.

I want you to think. To Gamzee, who is the most violent troll? You may think Vriska or maybe Eridan. No. Gamzee may have known Vriska’s past as a very violent troll, but he admitted that she scared him. He would never go to her for anything. Eridan hadn’t shown his true colors by then and was probably, to Gamzee, someone all-talk and no action. The other trolls are very mild, to be honest. All but one.

Gamzee’s best friend, Karkat. For most of the time he knew his mutant friend, he was jacked up on sopor, which can definitely mess with your perception of things. Karkat, always screaming and yelling at people, always putting people down because of their flaws (though he was just a hella socially awkward teenager that never really meant anything he said) would seem like the go-to person if you wanted someone to stop you from doing crazy things. So he talked to Karkat, told him exactly what to do, and hoped deep down that he would be stopped.

Let’s think about this for a minute. Gamzee was neglected, turned down by his crush at least one time, and (possibly) would have had depression if he hadn’t had his substance addiction.

Who else fits the description, huh?

Dirk Strider. Before you flip out and say that Dirk is NOTHING like Gamzee, consider this: Dirk had depression. You get this by reading between the lines when he was turned Trickster. He was labeled as a ‘broken trickster,’ as he wasn’t carefree and happy like the other three. Depression is a mental disorder, something that cannot be cured easily, and even the trickster mode couldn’t make him happy. He was also turned down by his crush, Jake, arguably the most important person in his life. Even though he wasn’t traditionally neglected, he had never seen another human being in his entire life before entering the game.

On the other hand, Dirk coped because he did have good friends. He had Jake, he had Roxy, and he had Jane. Honesty, I love every one of the alphas for different reasons, but what do you think would have happened if he didn’t have those three? If he had friends that didn’t include him in anything, if Jake had turned him down from the get-go? What do you think Dirk would have done? How would he have reacted? Maybe he wouldn’t have gone down Murder Lane, but it wouldn’t have been good.

Gamzee did try. That was my point here. He tried even after he’d killed Nepeta and Equius. Gamzee and Terezi didn’t really show any extreme hate toward each other, so it was surprising to me when they went black. Well, if Gamzee was trying to annoy Karkat or get his attention, what would he do? Well, if you blamed someone for not stopping you from doing something hella stupid and couldn’t figure out how to get to them, you go for the crush. The one they care for most. Pretty much, he slept with Karkat’s almost-girlfriend.

Gamzee tried so hard on multiple occasions. That’s what I want the fandom to recognize. I want everyone to know that Gamzee isn’t just some stupid clown, killing because some measly puppet told him to without conscience. Andrew Hussie even stated in a Caliborn scene that Gamzee was one of the most important characters and had never died in any of the timelines. There has to be a logical reason for that other than ‘Clowns are fucking terrifying and they are hard as shit to kill.’
